| | Rolling Chassis Build
Unfortunately there are some large gaps in this part of the
build, due to having to borrow a digital Camera !
Jan - May 2000
|

|
Sierra Uprights, Top and bottom
wishbones, shocks and springs and modified MK2 Column & pedal Box
assembled to the chassis. ( Note Garage did start off clean ! )
At this stage both floor panels
have been riveted and Sikaflexed into place, Brake and fuel lines have
also been run. |
| At the back the axle has been reassembled and fitted to the
chassis. The disk brake conversion uses Fiesta MK3 solid front disks with
Sierra / Granada 4x4 Calipers. At this point I was unable to work out how
to connect the Sierra 4x4 Handbrake cable to the Escort Lever (see
problems section), I decided
to leave it until the Gearbox and prop had been fitted |

A More detailed (ish) shot of the Disk Brake conversion
Having fitted the brakes I could not move the car as the slave 13"
wheels where locking on the calipers, So now seemed like a good time to
invest in some TSW Alpines with Yokohama Rubber ! |
|
1800 Ex Escort Si Engine, Donor car had done all of 13,500 miles before
being written off - Perfect I won't even have to run it in !. Alternator
is also from 1800 Zetec Escort with one mounting cut off on a self
fabricated bracket. Belt is a tight fit but should be OK when it
stretches. Inlet Manifold is Dunnell as is the lightened flywheel and
RS2000 clutch conversion. All service Items e.g. cam belt, plugs oil etc
replaced.

A more recent shot of the engine bay, Installation is almost
complete only the heater hoses have to be connected. I eventually bought
the Raceline alloy water rail as there doesn't seem to by a neat way of
connecting the Rad to the Ford Thermostat housing. Manifold is SSC
Thu cill system, Filter by Pipercrosss. Powdercoating of rocker cover was well
worth £10 ! |
|
Close up of ex Sierra 2l upright, Caliper is standard 2.0l Sierra, Pads
are by EBC. I had a slight problem with the wheel offset requiring spacers
to get the wheel to fill the front arch.
